I voted for JinLaw cos I don't believe in voting for "none". Extremely dissapointed with the selections. How could you leave out pieces like "Kat Beach" for pieces like "Bruce by Bruce". Epic fail on behalf of the judges. Some of this bile is just cringeworthy.
Kat's piece I felt didn't have character to it like the others. They need to show some personality in the artwork.

I like the idea of continuing the Ad. Willing to contribute for that. I suggest IV should come up with Fund raising drives for things such as Ads. This will keep us in the news. I am confident that with the Rally's success, we will be able to meet the funding drive targets.
I think people would be willing to pay for more of these ads! It is important that we do this before or during the time that the defense bill is put on the table. If we start a funding drive now, we can make it!
Put up a funny cartoon that shows our state and follow that up with the issues.

Hello,
I am in 8th year H1B.I have transfered MY H1-B from Employer A to B and recently joined company B. (H1B approved and valid until end of 2010).We also filed 485 @July2007 and got EAD & AP.But we never used it. Unfortunately since I have changed my job and my old employer canceled my 140 so USCIS directly revoked my 485 application also. Right now I am working on filing MTR with attorney.
I havent transfer my wife H4 to the new employer yet.I know I have to do it ASAP.She has valid H4 and 194 & visa stamp valid until end of 2010 from my old employer A.Could someone please tell me is my wife is out of status? I am just thinking of wait for a while until the MTR go through and results..
Thanks
KPR
It is becoming a standard process to deny I-485 for a job change even after the I-485 has been pending for 180+ days! I am sorry to hear about your case. I hear MTR can sometimes be a long and expensive process. Good luck. I will get to the thread on IV which asked for letters to be sent and will get on it. Hopefully we can get this addressed soon.
I am unsure of your wife's status but I don't think she is out of status.

Dear Mr. Aluri:
Thank you for contacting me about H-1B visas.
I oppose issuing more H-1B visas because there are still many unemployed
American high-tech workers and because H-1Bs undermine the rights of
immigrant employees, with the threat of deportation if they don't accept the
wages and working conditions offered them.
If certain skills become scarce relative to demand, then salary offers for
those jobs will increase, enticing more people to acquire those skills. The
real problem is that with our abysmal education system, Americans are left
unable to compete for high-skill jobs. In cases where American workers are
unavailable for a particular job, I support significantly raising fees
charged to companies who use H-1B visas and dedicating the money to science
and math education.
Sincerely,
Pete Stark

I did the same thing in September 2008, when I filed my renewal forms for both EAD and AP. I called the Customer Service Center the next day and informed them. They made a correction online. I also sent them a cover letter stating the mistake I had made in switching the last and first name.
All these corrections were not reflected on the receipts. However the EAD and the AP itself had the correct first and last names. I guess, they use the A number in the system while issuing these renewed documents.
You should be fine.

Guys, there are 245 countries worldwide and many choices to choose from the other 244. Many people will just as easily move to Canada others will fit where it suits them best which could be home. Often Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Germany are mentioned as countries which take in high skilled professionals. Sometimes forgotten are countries such as Ireland which is having an IT boom or the Middle East eg. Quatar, Saudia Arabia, UAE etc where the benefits include perks such as a tax free salary comparable or better than a US salary, two round trip tickets per year for the employee and their family to the employee's home country, entertainment, house and vehicle allowance, in short your greatest expense in some of these countries is basic sustenance needs. Lesser known but unmentioned countries having an IT boom are in Africa and many new frontiers where outsourcing is taking root. This bill will only help accelerate and encourage the growth of industry in these countries. It is now inevitable thanks to the misguided bill. In short don't despair, there are many options available out there...

BUSINESS intelligence software specialist SAS is enjoying its most successful year in Africa as companies realise the need to analyse the mountains of information that they generate.
Within the next few years business intelligence should move from being a “nice to have” niche application to an essential part of the business, says Bill Hoggarth, MD of its South African subsidiary.
“This is the strongest year we have ever had and I see it as the start of a three-to-five-year curve. Our goal is to see business intelligence take its place as a key pillar of a company’s information technology strategy alongside the operating applications. Business intelligence is coming out of its niche to attract boardroom attention.”
SAS has just ended its third financial quarter 12% ahead of its figures for the same period last year, says its international president Art Cooke, and the subsidiary in SA is outstripping that. It now has 100 staff in SA and a turnover of R150m, with ambitions to grow that substantially.

Kenya Plans to Create 30,000 Outsourcing Jobs in Varsities
Kenya plans to position itself as one of the world's leading outsourcing hubs for companies in North America and Europe looking to cut costs in their business processes.
Dr Bitange, who was head-hunted from the University of Nairobi, said in the coming six months, the Government hopes to engage some 10,000 students in an incubator venture modelled on a successful one by universities in north west Britain, called CallNorthWest and hosted by University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).

KenCall opened in late 2004, taking orders for U.S. late-night TV commercials. Its Kenyan operators sold Yellow Page ads, security alarms and mortgages. But it has since grown its business to include data-entry for one of the premier Wall Street credit-rating firms and handling service calls for global banks and insurance companies. For an economy dependent on coffee, safaris and flowers, this is a real change of pace.

I take this as a step in the right direction. Least USCIS is thinking of helping people. The very people who need help desperately. I can understand the agony and frustration of other people who are waiting for over a year to see their I140 getting approved. But if you think practically what can we acheive with 140 getting approved our 485 applications (for people with 140 pending) are good 2-3 years away (least) I am not talking about substitute cases filed before may 07. So only consolation for us is that with 140 approval we are one step closer to the GC dream other than that the wait does not stop us from working or doing things we were planning to do. If you work for a financially strong company you can use your EAD without any worries since they can answer any A2P queries easily.

Can some one help me understand this - why we are talking or POE problems with AOS status before GC while dependent is going ot have H type visa stamping in passport.
Yes, maintaining AP and EAD may be helpful for keeping AOS alive but how it will be issue for POE?
Transfering to CP and renewing AP as and when possible ( especially when dates are approching in bullieten) should be best options for dependents who are staying long term out side country.
I know my cousin who faced issues with two simultaneously college going kids and paying out of state fee ( which is too high), and was forced to send one to community college even though children are bright and intellegent.
My personal opinion -will it not be a good option to send children ( if they want) to India for good education rather than low standard college here?

Its a great idea to create a job posting section on the website. I am sure over the period of time, we will be able to attract the recruiters on to this website along side dice and other job related sites. We have a good number of skilled folks on this site.. Hopefully this will provide is potential add revenue as well... may be I am streatching it far.. but something to think about.

U will come across rude IO, VO, DMV etc... officers more often in coming days. You may not 'individuallly' be able to counter them because their superiors may be sympathetic towards them.
Be very polite when they turn rude to you. Talk to them well, and politely ask for their name, and describe your incident to the complaints cell.
If this pattern is repeating and is happening to everyone, then collective action can be taken and will be effective.

I got my passport and my wife's passport from NY consulate. My wife's passport has similar endorsement I thought it would take longer to get her passport because of that endorsement. But it came 2 days later than mine. (all in 8 to 10 days)
Not sure we just got lucky. I remember to have read some where that renewal of all short validity passport takes longer because they need to get info from India. Is your regular validity or short ?
PS: I had observed that the tatkal passports (in India) are issued with 5 year validity only. If it is originally issues for 5 years they will just extend it to 10 and do not reissue a new passport.
My passport was issued with 5 year validity (2002-2007). Hope this endorsement will not cause any issue since I'm renewing the passport after the expiration date.

My I 140 applied on May 1st, case number starts with LIN...so it is being processed at NSC. I am worried about this, since I don't see any approvals from NSC lately, although the cases filed in June first week are approved. These cases processed at TSC.
Anyone knows the timeline when I 140 premium will start?
My H1 expires on Spet 11 and I need to get extension.
Mine had a RD of May 1 too at NSC. I checked the status for the first two weeks and it said it would be approved in 150-180 days. Now it just says that it is being processed, without any mention of the days it might take.

YES
2. I paid $114 online visa applictaion fee. Is there any other fee on top of this fee for a 6-month visa?
NO. Except for mailing cost -- to send to consulate and return mail.
3. Can I drop the app packet since I am in Chicago or does it still need to be mailed?
I guess yes ... you can drop it. But please check the instructions in the link which I sent earlier.

I got back from Can on 7/22. I didn't know at the time, but checks were cashed on the 16th (I left on the 19th) and Notice date was apparently the 18th. Had no idea of all this till 2 days ago. So it was in the comp when I met the airport IO and they said nothing about it either.

369,
Since you changed status from F1 to H4, you cannot go to Canada for visa stamping. It is always to be done in the country of origin. A friend's wife had gone to Canada for stamping from H4 to H1, the consulate denied the petition and referred that the applicant travel to country of origin for visa stamping. She had to endure a lot of issues (since the she was stamping for H1) at Chennai and finally got the visa and returned back after nearly 3 months. Since you are getting an H4 stamped, please ensure that you carry all documents as requested in the consulate of your country of origin.
